The Earth is a new and exciting place for preschoolers, and preschool age is a perfect time for teaching children about ways we can help the planet. PBS KIDS! knows just how to do it – though entertaining stories filled with interesting information.
Angelina Ballerina The Next Steps
“Angelina and the Dance-a-thon.” Angelina and her friends are organizing a dance marathon for their Chipping Cheddar Earth Club. It's part of a "Camembert Cares" school project. Gracie accidentally recycles the pledge sheet, and it's up to Angelina to use her ingenuity to save the day!
Barney & Friends
“Home Sweet Earth: The Rainforest.” It’s Earth Day, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Ben is wasting paper, and BJ doesn't seem concerned about cutting down a tree as they plan a new playground. The friends take a trip to a rainforest where they meet Mother Nature. It changes everyone as they learn the importance of taking care of Earth. After all, as Barney points out, taking good care of the Earth is a natural thing to do for people we love.
Clifford the Big Red Dog
“Doggie Garden.” During Keep Birdwell Beautiful month the kids are planting a flower garden, and the dogs decide that they should create a doggie flower garden of their own. Cleo hears that nearly anything grows in Birdwell Island soil so she chooses to grow a garden full of dog toys. During the process she learns that working alone for a selfish end isn't nearly as rewarding as working with others for the good of everyone.
Curious George
“Follow That Boat.” Steve needs to get an "A" to pass in his history class. His model papyrus boat is bound to get that "A." Curious George helps him test the boat in the pond at Endless Park, but faces a big problem when a sudden rainstorm sweeps it down the sewer grate. As they search for the boat, George and Steve learn that debris from the street winds up in the ocean.
“Windmill Monkey.” As George finishes planting his rooftop garden to his pride and joy, he turns around to discover that Compass and his gangs have eaten all the seeds. The scarecrow overlooking the garden was completely ineffective. Buying more seeds, George spies a windmill. He learns that wind can power nearly anything. This inspires him to create the first wind powered scarecrow in the world, but it's not that easy.
Super Why!
“Tiddalick the Frog.” Whyatt is wasting water according to his mother. He's not sure how to fix this problem. The Super Readers dash into the Australian folk tale of "Tiddalick the Frog" and they meet the funny amphibious puddle jumper who is inadvertently using up all the water, leaving his neighbors in the dust. As the Super Readers help the frog and his friends, they learn the importance of water on our planet, and they learn a valuable lesson about conservation.
