The week before Halloween, kids are in for a real treat, and that's no trick. PBS KIDS! is lining up a bevy of Halloween-themed episodes for Sid the Science Kid, Wild Kratts, Dinosaur Train and The Cat in The Hat Knows a Lot About That!
Sid the Science Kid
Costumes parties are lots of fun, especially when you are encouraged to don a scary costume. Sid and his friends learn that things we see as scary are actually very fun, beautiful and helpful. A skeleton might look scary, but it's has a great function. It helps protect the heart, brain and lungs. Parents will most likely love how the scientific information helps takes fear out of the scarier aspects of Halloween for sensitive little souls, and how it highlights the fun of the day and the ways nature helps humans.
Wild Kratts
Before the Halloween fun even begins, venture into the wild side with Predator Week on Wild Kratts (Beginning October 17, 2011). Go deep into the ocean to learn about the mysterious life of the great white shark. Or, if you are a land-lover, discover the wonderful world of wolves, raptors, and cheetahs. Did you know that a wolf can lope for over 100 miles a day with hardly any rests? I learned that and tons of other amazing facts as I reviewed the Predator Week specials. For Halloween week, viewers learn all about masked bandits, tarantulas, and the great horned owl.
Dinosaur Train
All aboard! It's time to explore the fun and wonder of Halloween and autumn. Take a journey through the haunted roundhouse. The young dinosaurs discover that being scared can be fun when you know that there is a reason or plan for everything. They learn about gliding animals and what nocturnal means. When they take a trip to the Big Pond Pumpkin Patch, viewers learn about the autumn moon and the science of pumpkins.
The Cat in The Hat Knows a Lot About That!
Making a mask turns into a great animal adventure when the kids encounter the aye-aye. They discover that scary eyes and ears, super-long fingers and pointy teeth are pretty useful. In "Trick or Treat" viewers watch animals do tricks before they get a treat. The treat is something unique the particular animals eats. Kids learn about the animals, and they also learn about seasons and the differences between animals such as frogs and toads.
Halloween viewing is fun and informative thanks to PBS KIDS! The episodes will most likely intrigue parents as much as kids. Check your local listings for viewing times in your area.
