When a person says they've been to hell and back, they are generally talking hypothetically. Sam isn't. Dean has mixed feelings about his brother showing up a year after he descended into hell. He tries to sort out these feelings as the two team up to take on a bevy of supernatural beings from shape shifters to angels with an agenda.
The Classic Good Against Evil
When I popped this Supernatural: The Complete Sixth Season DVD into the player after it was sent to me for review from Warner Home Video, I wasn't certain what to expect. I knew that this was a popular television show, but I hadn't seen it. While I'm not a blood, guts and gore person, I do appreciate a good story, and I love supernatural elements. The theme song made me wonder what I was getting myself into.
As I began the first episode, pieces of the storyline feel into place. That's pretty good considering it was the sixth season, and by the end of the first episode I had a pretty good idea of what was going on. The acting was strong, and I identified with the characters. The storyline also intrigued me. How does a super-powerful being attempt to live an ordinary life?
Shapeshifters and Vampires
With Halloween around the corner, I was ready for some decent, scary thrills and chills. What I got instead was some predictable story lines and drawn out scenes. The stereotypical music build-up and the long pauses as hands reach toward doorknobs made me roll my eyes more than sit on the edge of my seat.
It's not all bad, though. On the positive side, I certainly didn't have nightmares. I was also impressed with the cinematography as skin feel off, boils appeared, and blood and goo exploded over walls.
Supernatural: The Complete Sixth Season was interesting and it stimulates the imagination. It taps into human emotions, defines the idea of family, and promotes good winning out over evil. I was also pleased to discover that the episode also included some humor so it wasn't all dark. It's wasn't a DVD series that I would run out and rave about to my friends. However, it's not a terrible waste of time, either.
